Pack Hike - Saturday July 14th

Saturday, July 14th 9:30am - Hosted by Don Iley Den 1 Leader

Link:  Castlewood Canyon State Park

Directions:  Enter the Park from the east entrance.  The east entrance is 5 miles south of Franktown on S.Parker Rd. (Hwy 83).  Once you enter the park drive to the end of the road and park in the third parking lot (Canyon Point) on the map below.

There is a $7.00 per vehicle entrance fee.  Please feel free to car pool.

Don will be hiking into the canyon on the Inner Canyon Trail that takes visitors into the canyon by the creek and back for nice views.  This will be a total of 1.5 - 2 miles.  There is also a 1 mile Canyon View trail that may also be hiked based on everyone's desire.  Please bring plenty of water.

We will complete the Hiking Belt Loop

Requirements for the Hiking Belt Loop

Complete these three requirements:
  1. Explain the hiking safety rules to your den leader or adult partner. Practice these rules while on a hike.
  2. Demonstrate proper hiking attire and equipment.
  3. Hike at least 30 minutes with your adult partner, family, or den.

*National Summertime Pack Award (participate in 3 summertime pack activities in June, July & August)

*Leave No Trace outings (participate in 3 outings where you practice Leave No Trace)

*Webelos Sportsman Activity Badge #3 (earn 2 individual sports Belt Loops)

*Bear Achievement #12 (go on a hike with your family) & Elective 25h (earn the Leave No Trace Award)

*Wolf Achievement #7 (d. pick up litter) & Elective #18 f (take part in two summertime pack events)

*Tiger Achievement #5 (Go See it: Go on a hike with your den)


Note: It is very important that we stay on the trails on this hike.  Please discuss this with your scouts and siblings before arriving. Please bring a small trash bag (King Soopers) to gather any trash we find.
